Summary
Here are some ways you can embrace the slump so that you might actually end up more productive, not less!
Sun, spreadsheets, beach days, budget.
With schools closed and sun holidays ensuing, it is hard to not find the daily work life you used to love a little more tedious. An “International Journal of Environmental Health Research” report shows that just 20 minutes in a park can result in huge well-being enhancements.
After the new year starts, many of us hit the ground running and by the time June rolls along, we find ourselves out of steam. We have hit the halfway mark of the year and suddenly all those late hours and weekend shifts have started to catch up with us.
Many organisations try to combat this – but what about embracing it through a better work-life balance? Here are some ways you can embrace the slump so that you might actually end up more productive, not less!
1 ) Know Your Work Priorities
During the summer, work task can feel endless and like you will never get through your list. A good way to combat work load stress is to spend a few minutes at the start of each prioritising; that way, you have a clear structure on how to work and don’t get exhausted each day just looking at your list. It is also helpful to mix up your tasks during the day, spend the morning on one and then move onto another in the afternoon. Working through a list can help you feel more organised and increase productivity.
2 ) Incorporate Summer Activities into Your Schedule
It can help to have some plans in place around your work week to firstly build excitement, but also know that you have some time carved out to make the most of summer. It doesn’t have to be extreme – even jus knowing that you will spend with your family and away from your work screen can be helpful. This is very important when working from home, to split up the day so that you feel you can leave work in the ‘office’ and not carry it around your house.
3 ) Listen to Your Distractions
Often times, the worst thing you can do when you have a distracting thought is let it linger in the back of your head. If you really feel like going for a bike ride, then do it on your lunch break. That way you will return to work with a fresh, clear mind and can embrace productivity more.
Finally, take time off. Our holiday days are not time off for doing good work – they are essential for you to recharge your batteries and give your body and mind a break, even if it is just over a long weekend.
